Real Madrid's Position on Alaba's Contract Renewal
Tuesday 24-06-2025
Reports indicate that Real Madrid is not considering renewing the contract of Austrian defender David Alaba, which expires in the summer of 2026, due to his declining role within the team and repeated injuries in recent times.

Alaba is suffering from a severe injury to the cartilage in his left knee, which he sustained in December 2023, and his condition worsened with a new issue in the meniscus last May, causing him to be absent for an extended period, with no clear timeline for his return, according to the medical staff.

With several defenders recovering and young Juan Martinez making progress within the team, Alaba's ranking has dropped to fifth among center-backs, behind Rudiger, Hausen, Militao, and Asensio, which has diminished his technical importance in coach Xabi Alonso's plans.

According to the report, Real Madrid's management does not prioritize renewing Alaba's contract, especially given the high salary he earns, which amounts to 19.5 million euros annually, in addition to the large bonus he received upon signing for free in 2021.
