Oblak: We Paid the Price for the First Match, and the Referee's Decisions Were Against Us
Tuesday 24-06-2025
The goalkeeper of Atletico Madrid, Jan Oblak, appeared in press statements after leaving the FIFA Club World Cup, despite winning 1-0 against Botafogo in the final round of the group stage.

He said: "Winning 1-0 was not enough; unfortunately, the ball did not go into the net. If we had scored in the first half, the second half would have been much easier. We feel disappointed."

He added: "Honestly, I don’t know what happened. In the end, the referee's decisions are what they are. If we had gotten a penalty, we could have scored, and maybe the second half would have been easier. The draw at the end of the first half made things more complicated."

He concluded: "We gave everything we had in the second and third matches, but in the first match (the loss against Paris Saint-Germain 4-0), we were not at the required level, and we paid the price for that. This is something that should not happen, as such opportunities do not come around often."
