Officially: Matthias Almeida New Head Coach of Sevilla

The Spanish club Sevilla announced today, Monday, that it has officially signed Argentine coach Matthias Almeida to take over the first team, with a contract extending until the summer of 2027.

Almeida, who is 51 years old, has an impressive coaching record, having started his coaching career in 2011 with River Plate, where he successfully returned them to the Argentine Primera Division, before leading Banfield and also promoting them to the top division.

Almeida had a successful stint with Chivas in Mexico, where he won 5 domestic and continental titles, most notably the CONCACAF Champions League in 2018, before moving to the American league to lead the San Jose Earthquakes.

In 2022, he took charge of AEK Athens in Greece, achieving the domestic double in his first season and leading the team to the league runner-up in the following two seasons. Over 134 matches with AEK, he achieved 80 wins, 24 draws, and 30 losses.

Almeida is set to officially take over the role in July, starting his second term at the Andalusian club, having played for the team during the 1996/1997 season.
