Barcelona Requests Participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
The Spanish club Barcelona has requested the participation of the FIFA in the 2025 Club World Cup after the exclusion of the Mexican club Lyon from the tournament.
FIFA had decided to exclude Lyon due to dual ownership with the Pachuca club, which contradicts the regulations governing the tournament.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Marca", Barcelona submitted a request to participate instead of Lyon, which was eliminated from the tournament before it started.
The 2025 Club World Cup kicked off early this Sunday with a match between the Egyptian club Al Ahly and the American club Inter Miami, which ended in a goalless draw.
The American club Los Angeles qualified instead of Lyon after defeating Club America from Mexico with a score of 2-1, joining group D which includes Chelsea from England, Flamengo from Brazil, and Esperance from Tunisia.
The tournament will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025.
