Bayern Munich Clarifies Reason for Failure to Sign Wirtz
Friday 13-06-2025
Max Eberl, the sporting director of Bayern Munich, admitted that the Bavarian club could not match the huge financial offer made by Liverpool for the signing of Florian Wirtz, the Bayer Leverkusen star, noting that the financial aspect was crucial in the player's potential move to the English Premier League.

According to multiple media reports, Liverpool is very close to finalizing the deal for Wirtz, who is 22 years old, after making three consecutive offers, the latest of which was valued at £100 million, along with £14 million in incentives and bonuses.

Max Eberl stated in his remarks: "Honestly, I don't know if we are able to pay what Liverpool is currently paying to sign Wirtz."

He added: "Wirtz is an exceptional player, we really wanted to sign him, but sometimes doors close, and others open."

The president of Bayern Munich had previously commented on the negotiations regarding the deal, saying: "Eberl informed me that Wirtz is likely leaning towards a move to Liverpool, I cannot say for certain how the negotiations with Leverkusen will turn out."

An official announcement regarding Wirtz's transfer to Liverpool is expected to be made next week, following his medical examination after the end of his summer vacation.
