Can Al-Hilal Borrow Players During the World Cup? A Regulatory Controversy
Wednesday 11-06-2025
As the World Cup approaches, Al-Hilal Saudi Club is under significant pressure regarding new contract negotiations, especially given the limited time available for management to finalize high-quality deals.

The Al-Hilal management is in a state of alert, as the short period remaining before the global tournament does not provide enough room to conclude successful negotiations with professional players of high caliber.

However, what has raised the most questions among fans and analysts is the possibility of Al-Hilal borrowing local players from Saudi clubs only for a short period, limited to the duration of the World Cup, after which they would return to their original clubs.

The debate has intensified regarding the legal allowance of this step, with some relying on the opinions of journalists, while others believe that FIFA has opened the door for it. However, the truth lies solely in the regulations of the Saudi Football Federation.

According to the Professional Players and Transfers Regulations for 2024, specifically Article 36, Clause 5, the minimum loan period is the time extending between the registration periods, which lasts until next January.

It should be emphasized that FIFA does not set local loan regulations but leaves these matters to national federations, meaning the decision rests with the Saudi Federation, which has clearly and officially defined the matter.

Thus, the issue is legally settled, as the system does not allow for temporary short loans solely for the World Cup; rather, the loan must extend to the next registration period, making Al-Hilal's option difficult to implement officially.
