Spanish media reports have revealed that FC Barcelona is nearing a deal to sign Juan Garcia, the goalkeeper of Espanyol, during the summer transfer window to strengthen the goalkeeper position for the new season 2025/2026.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Sport", Garcia is set to sign his contract with Barcelona next Wednesday, with the Catalan club expected to pay the player's release clause of 25 million euros on the same day.

Mao Yi Wu, the executive director of Espanyol, confirmed that his club has not entered into any negotiations with Barcelona regarding the sale of the goalkeeper, emphasizing that paying the release clause is the only way to complete the deal.

Garcia will join Barcelona on a contract that extends for five years until the summer of 2030, in a deal recommended by head coach Hans Flick, who decided not to rely on German goalkeeper Ter Stegen.

He preferred to bring in Garcia alongside extending the contract of Wojciech Szczęsny, who delivered an impressive performance last season and contributed to winning the domestic treble.
