Liverpool Approaches to Finalize Second Summer Signing
The English club Liverpool is nearing the official announcement of its contract with German star Florian Wirtz, the midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen, making it the team's second signing in the summer transfer market, according to journalist Sasha Tavolieri.
This comes as part of the Reds' efforts to strengthen their squad after winning the Premier League title for the 2024/2025 season, in the first season under coach Arne Slot, amidst great ambitions to retain the title and compete in various tournaments next season.
Liverpool announced last week its first summer signing of Dutch player Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for 35 million euros, before turning its attention to his teammate Wirtz.
According to reports, Liverpool made an offer of 108 million pounds, which was rejected by Leverkusen, who requested 120 million. Nevertheless, the English club continued its efforts to eventually secure the green light for Wirtz to complete the deal.
Sources confirmed that the two clubs reached a final agreement regarding the transfer fee, which is close to 150 million euros, making it one of the most expensive transfers in Liverpool's history, with the deal expected to be finalized officially within the next week.
