Spanish media reports have revealed that FC Barcelona is considering signing Spanish defender Grimaldo, currently playing for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, during the upcoming summer transfer window, as part of their efforts to strengthen the left-back position.

This move by the Catalan club's management comes amid uncertainty surrounding Alejandro Balde's future, who suffered from recurring injuries during the past season, prompting Barcelona to search for ready and experienced alternatives.

Grimaldo, 28 years old, grew up in the La Masia academy before moving to Benfica in Portugal, and then to Bayer Leverkusen, where he had an impressive season and contributed to the team's historic first Bundesliga title.

According to 'Mundo Deportivo', Grimaldo's release clause with Leverkusen ranges between 15 and 18 million euros, making him a financially suitable option for Barcelona, which is facing economic constraints.

The player is also attracting interest from other clubs, notably Real Madrid, which is monitoring the situation in anticipation of entering negotiations if there are changes in their defensive line during the transfer market.

Grimaldo is currently considered one of the top full-backs in Europe, thanks to his offensive abilities, accuracy in executing set pieces, and his international experience with the Spanish national team.
