Sky Sports has revealed that Atletico Madrid is preparing to make an official offer to Tottenham Hotspur for the Argentine defender Cristian Romero, which could happen as early as this week.

According to the report, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the CEO of Atletico Madrid, intends to hold direct talks with Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, to negotiate the potential deal.

Atletico Madrid has shown interest in signing Romero since March, as coach Diego Simeone aims to strengthen the backline ahead of the Club World Cup in June.

Despite this interest, Tottenham's management's stance on selling the player remains unclear, especially after winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League. Romero has two years left on his contract, while coach Ange Postecoglou, despite the frustrating uncertainty about his future, insists on keeping the defender as part of the team's project.
