Spanish referee Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes is preparing to officially bid farewell to the fields by officiating the match between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona, scheduled for next Sunday, as part of the final round of the Spanish league for the 2024/2025 season.

Gonzalez Fuertes will turn 45 years old on June 8, and the Bilbao vs. Barcelona match will be the last in his officiating career, after having officiated 19 matches in La Liga this season, with veteran referee Carlos del Cerro Grande assisting him in the video technology.

During the current season, the referee officiated two matches for Barcelona, the first in the seventh round against Getafe, which ended with a 1-0 victory for Barcelona, and the second in the twentieth round against the same team, which ended in a 1-1 draw. He also took charge of the video technology in the Copa del Rey final, where Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-2 after extra time.

Overall, Gonzalez Fuertes has officiated 14 matches for Barcelona in La Liga, during which the Catalan team achieved 10 victories, 2 draws, and 2 losses, with the last loss officiated by him occurring in December 2021 against Real Betis 1-0.

As for Athletic Bilbao, he has only officiated 5 matches for them in the Spanish league, winning only one, drawing one, and suffering 3 losses, with the only win this season coming against Valencia in the third round 1-0.
