Real Madrid has begun its efforts to strengthen the defense during the summer transfer window, placing Argentine star Cristian Romero, Tottenham Hotspur's defender, at the top of its list of interests.

According to Sky Sports, Real Madrid's management is closely monitoring Romero's situation, with a strong desire to sign him, especially with Xabi Alonso taking over the coaching role for the team next season, as he is one of the most prominent admirers of the player's defensive capabilities.

Real Madrid had previously tried to sign Romero in the summer of 2024, but Tottenham's management's insistence prevented the deal from being completed. With the decline in results for the English club this season, the Madrid management hopes this will motivate them to reopen negotiations.

Romero, who is 27 years old, excels in the center-back position, and his contract with Tottenham extends until June 2027. He joined the London team in 2021 from Atalanta in Italy and has participated in 123 matches across all competitions since then.
