Paris Saint-Germain Turns the Tables on Mbappe
Paris Saint-Germain has entered into a legal clash with its former star Kylian Mbappe, after filing a formal request with the Paris court to lift the freeze imposed by the player on the club's accounts amounting to 55 million euros, which are overdue payments of salaries and bonuses.
Mbappe, who recently transferred to Real Madrid, had obtained a preliminary ruling last April allowing him to provisionally freeze the club's funds amid an ongoing financial dispute.
In a new development, Paris Saint-Germain responded with a counterclaim against Mbappe, demanding an amount of 98 million euros, claiming that the player caused damage to the club through what his lawyers described as dishonest behavior during the end of his contract.
The club's lawyers pointed out that Mbappe did not provide sufficient evidence of an actual debt or financial risk that would warrant the freeze, asserting that the club enjoys a strong financial position worth up to 800 million euros annually.
For his part, Mbappe's lawyer described the club's actions as retaliatory due to his free transfer to Real Madrid, emphasizing that the player has served the club faithfully for seven years and is only demanding his financial rights.
It is worth noting that the decisive session in the case will be held on May 26, 2025, in one of the most complex legal battles between a club and a player in recent years.
