Covatc appointed as referee for the UEFA Champions League final
The International Football Federation has appointed Romanian referee Istvan Covatc to officiate the UEFA Champions League final 2024/2025, which will bring together French club Paris Saint-Germain and Italian club Inter Milan.
The match will take place at the Allianz Arena on May 31, 2025, at 10:00 PM Cairo and Mecca time.
The Italian team qualified for the final after eliminating Barcelona in the semi-finals, where the two teams drew in the first leg with three goals each at the Montjuïc Stadium, and then Inter won the second leg at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium 4-3.
The French team successfully qualified after defeating Arsenal in the semi-finals, winning 1-0 in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, and then triumphing 2-1 in the second leg at the Parc des Princes.
Covatc has officiated several matches in the tournament this season, having managed the match between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Round of 16, in addition to overseeing the clash between Inter Milan and Arsenal in the group stage.
The European Union has also announced the appointment of German referee Felix Zwayer to officiate the UEFA Europa League final 2024/2025, between Manchester United and Tottenham.
