Flick Excludes Defender from Dortmund Match

Tuesday 15-04-2025
German coach Hans Flick has made an important decision regarding Barcelona's lineup for the match against Borussia Dortmund this evening in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, as he decided to exclude defender Inigo Martinez from participating in the match.

Barcelona will face Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park after securing a 4-0 victory in the first leg at Montjuïc, putting one foot in the semi-finals.

According to 'Mundo Deportivo', Flick preferred to rest Martinez to avoid him receiving a yellow card, which would have ruled him out of the semi-finals if the Catalan team officially qualified.

The German coach will deploy the defensive duo Ronald Araujo and Pau Torres in the heart of the backline, as part of a strategy that relies on limited changes without making significant rotations, to maintain the team's technical balance.

It is worth noting that yellow cards are reset at the start of the semi-finals, making Martinez's exclusion a precautionary step to ensure his readiness for the upcoming match against the winner of the Bayern Munich and Inter Milan clash.
