Monday 14-04-2025
UEFA has announced the appointment of Italian referee Maurizio Mariani to officiate the second leg in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League between Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening at Signal Iduna Park in Germany.

Barcelona enters the match with a significant advantage after winning the first leg 4-0 at home, and aims to secure qualification to the semi-finals.

The 43-year-old Italian referee joined UEFA's elite referees at the beginning of this year and has officiated six matches in the current edition of the Champions League, including matches for Real Madrid and Girona.

He previously officiated a match for Barcelona against Manchester United in the Europa League, which ended in a 2-2 draw, and he also officiated a match for Dortmund in the 2022/2023 season against Sevilla, which the German team won 4-1.

Marco Di Bello will be in charge of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), leading a fully Italian officiating team for this crucial encounter.
