Argentinian star Angel Di Maria, player of Portuguese club Benfica, has broken his silence to respond to reports accusing him of involvement in illegal betting during his time with Italian club Juventus in the 2022/2023 season.

In his statements, Di Maria said: "I would like to clarify unequivocally that I have not engaged in any form of illegal betting."

Some Italian media outlets had indicated that several players in the Italian league were involved in an illegal betting scandal, including Di Maria, who completely denied the allegations.

For its part, Benfica announced its full support for its Argentinian star, affirming its confidence in his integrity and its readiness to provide him with full legal support if necessary.

It is worth noting that Di Maria joined Benfica in the summer of 2023 from Juventus, and he is contracted with the Portuguese club until June 30, 2025.
