Czyszny Clarifies His Position on Sitting as a Substitute for Ter Stegen
Tuesday 08-04-2025
Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, a player for FC Barcelona, revealed his stance on returning to the bench as his German teammate Marc-André ter Stegen is nearing recovery, emphasizing his complete respect for the coaching staff's decision.

Szczęsny stated: "Ter Stegen has already started training with us, and he looks in good shape, and most importantly, he is healthy. We are happy to see him return with such strength."

He continued: "I came here to replace Marc Ter Stegen after his injury, and if the coach decides that the captain returns to take on the goalkeeping duties, that is completely normal and understandable for me."

He added: "I will have no problem sitting on the bench; the most important thing for me is to serve the team and give my best in every opportunity I get."

Ter Stegen suffered a serious injury with a torn ACL at the beginning of the current 2024/2025 season, missing a long period with the team, which prompted Barcelona to sign Szczęsny on a free transfer after announcing his retirement from football.

Since joining, the Polish goalkeeper has impressed with his performances, becoming the starting goalkeeper, surpassing Iñaki Peña, and regaining his shine with the Blaugrana.

Barcelona is preparing to face Borussia Dortmund tomorrow, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at Montjuïc Stadium.
