Diaz: Time Will Tell, What De Bruyne Achieved is Exceptional

Sunday 06-04-2025
Manchester City defender Ruben Diaz appeared in a press statement after the 0-0 draw against Manchester United in the 31st round of the Premier League.

Diaz said: "It was a very difficult match, as always, they were a dangerous opponent. I feel that coming away with a point today is an addition to our series in the quest to remain in the top four, we all fought hard."

He added: "It's not easy to play when they are set up so low with that many players, it’s complicated. I felt in the first half that we had moments where we were close to a decisive pass, and if that pass had been completed, we could have been more dangerous. The second half was different."

He emphasized: "We did not deliver the expected performance, but the way we fought and communicated as a team was fantastic. The way Bernardo [Silva] and Mateo [Kovacic] fought for every ball was amazing. And the final effort from [Marmoush], even though he was completely exhausted, he kept trying — that is our essence."

Regarding how close City is to returning to its level: "Time will tell how far we have come, but I feel we have become more cohesive, in terms of mentality and how to fight in duels. We are capable of withstanding difficult conditions, and our way of responding when losing the ball shows our commitment to our principles."

He continued: "Offensively, we were not at our usual level today, but there are small indicators that some may not appreciate."

On the departure of Kevin De Bruyne at the end of the season: "It's not the best news we could receive. More than being a special player, he is a friend and a very special person for all of us, for the club and the fans. Now is the time to enjoy every second we can spend with him, what he has achieved is something exceptional, and there are many qualities that can describe him. Enjoy every moment, as we are still competing in three tournaments [including the Club World Cup]. We are trying to give our best, because he deserves it, and as a member of this team, I wish him that more than anything else."
