Guardiola: We Want to Achieve Our Goal, and We Prefer to Win

Sunday 06-04-2025
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola appeared in a press conference after the 0-0 draw against Manchester United in the 31st round of the Premier League.

The coach said: "We controlled the game, but we weren't in the right places to trouble them in the first half, and our performance improved a bit in the early minutes of the second half. United was a great transitional team, they defended against us deeply, thanks to Garnacho and their speed. They connect well in midfield and know exactly what they need to do. But we secured the point; I would have preferred to win, but we are ready."

He added: "What do the players need to improve their performance? The players are aware of that. When the ball is in one side's possession, players need to be in the right position. That wasn't enough today."

He continued: "Against a 5-4-1 setup, it's hard to find spaces; we needed to be in some positions we tried to penetrate, but we weren't good enough to punish them."

He clarified: "In recent matches, we have been much better, and the back four has improved, but our style of play hasn't been good. However, we know that when we lose the ball in certain areas, they are a strong team and will punish you, but we were aware of that."

Regarding returning to City's usual level: "It will take some time; the players gave their best today."

He concluded: "We will prepare for the upcoming matches; there are some things I am happy with, but now we need to achieve our goal of qualifying for the Champions League, and then next season is next season."
