Officially.. Dourival Junior Sacked as Brazil Coach
The Brazilian Football Confederation has announced the dismissal of coach Dourival Junior after the heavy loss to Argentina 4-1 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Brazilian federation stated: "The Brazilian Football Confederation announces that coach Dourival Junior is no longer leading the Brazilian national team. The management extends its gratitude to the professional and wishes him success in his future career."
It added: "From now on, the Brazilian Football Confederation will work on finding a replacement."
Dourival Junior took over the coaching role for Brazil in January 2024, and he is expected to receive his full salary from the football federation until the end of his contract, which concludes with the 2026 World Cup.
With Dourival's departure, Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus emerges as a strong candidate to lead the Brazilian national team in the upcoming period.
It is worth noting that the Brazilian national team is currently in fourth place in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, while Argentina has secured early qualification, increasing the pressure on the Brazilian federation to make decisive decisions regarding the coaching staff.
