Spanish Prosecutor Closes Racism Case Against Vinicius
The Barcelona public prosecutor's office has decided to archive the investigations related to the racist chants directed at Brazilian star Vinicius Junior, a player for Real Madrid, during the El Clasico match against Barcelona in October 2023 at the Montjuïc Stadium.
According to a report published by the Spanish newspaper "AS", the hate crimes prosecutor confirmed in its report that the evidence is insufficient to accurately identify the phrases shouted by the fans, noting that even if they were offensive, they do not constitute a crime of incitement to hatred, as they did not lead to stirring up the crowd or halting the match.
However, the prosecutor recommended referring the case to the Office for Equality and Non-Discrimination to consider the possibility of imposing administrative penalties on the fans involved in the incident.
