Oblak: We Gave Everything We Could, But Luck Wasn't on Our Side
Saturday 06-12-2025
Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid expressed his disappointment after his team's elimination from the Champions League against Real Madrid on penalties, confirming that the team did everything it could during the match.

Oblak said: "We feel frustrated, it's hard to accept this result, but this is football and this is life. We still have a long season ahead of us, and we need to get up quickly and not think too much about what happened, because we have another match in a few days."

He added: "The referee saw that the ball touched the player twice during the penalty kick, it's unfortunate because the ball would have gone into the net anyway. This is the luck we missed, while they had luck on their side. Unfortunately, we couldn't achieve victory."

He continued: "Referee decisions must be respected, even if they are not in our favor. Football can sometimes be harsh, and what happened today is an example of that."

He concluded: "Fair or unfair, that doesn't matter now. We gave everything we could, we played a great match, we wanted to win and qualify, but we didn't succeed. Talking about fairness won't change anything; the most important thing is that we fought until the end, but luck wasn't on our side."
