Van Dijk: This is what I told the players, and we feel disappointed
Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk spoke to the press after being eliminated from the Champions League, losing on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain, following a 1-0 win for PSG at the end of regular and extra time.
The player said: "It was a great and exciting football match, and I think I will be a part of it too. Liverpool was present in every sense of the word, and what we showed in Paris, unfortunately, we lost on penalties, and that is the truth."
He added: "I think we created dangerous moments in the first half, and they have quality too, then it comes down to penalties."
He continued: "I told the players that what happened is part of football, of course, you may feel disappointed because we were eliminated from the tournament, but lift your heads and get ready for the next challenge, which is a great challenge this weekend."
He concluded: "I think we were very good today too, and we want to go as far as possible. We knew the difficulty of the match, we saw in Paris when we struggled but won, and today we saw a strong Liverpool team but we were eliminated from the tournament."
"Today, from the first second and then in extra time, when fatigue started to take over both teams, things became more open, especially in regular time, we delivered a fantastic performance. We can talk about the match for a long time, but we are out of the competition, that is the truth."
