Match Referee for Liverpool vs Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League
Sunday 09-03-2025
UEFA has announced the appointment of Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs to officiate the match between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, scheduled to take place on Tuesday at 10 PM Cairo time.

Kovacs is known for his strict refereeing, which may not be good news for Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembélé, who was sent off by him during the match against Bayern Munich last November after receiving two yellow cards in the 37th and 56th minutes.

Kovacs was the strictest referee in Euro 2020, issuing 18 yellow cards and two red cards, reflecting his tough style of officiating matches.

Despite his strict reputation, Kovacs has a good memory for the Parisian club, having officiated the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals last season against Barcelona, which ended in a 4-1 victory for Paris.

The match between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain will be a tough test for both teams, under the guidance of a referee who does not hesitate in his decisions.
