Galatasaray Targets Signing Barcelona Goalkeeper

Friday 07-03-2025
Speculations are increasing about the future of Spanish goalkeeper Iñaki Peña with Barcelona, especially after the impressive performance of Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny in the Champions League, which boosts his chances of renewing his contract with the Catalan club. This comes as Peña has turned into the team's third goalkeeper, despite his contract running until June 2026.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Turkish club Galatasaray is closely monitoring Peña's situation, as they aim to bring him back next season, anticipating the departure of Fernando Muslera, who may return to the Uruguayan league. Peña had a successful loan spell with the Turkish team in 2022, where he impressed both fans and management.

Despite the external interest, reports confirm that Peña is not considering leaving Barcelona at the moment, as he continues training in preparation for any opportunity that German coach Hans Flick may provide him. The goalkeeper has also not received any official offers from the club's management to renew his contract.

It is worth noting that Barcelona signed Szczęsny at the beginning of the current season after German goalkeeper André ter Stegen suffered a cruciate ligament tear, which forced him to be sidelined until the end of the season. Although Peña started the season as the first-choice goalkeeper, Flick later preferred to rely on Szczęsny, raising questions about the future of the Spanish goalkeeper.
