Iraqi Duhok achieved a valuable victory over its host Al-Ettifaq with a clean goal in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Gulf Champions League, in a match that took place at the Ego Stadium.

Both teams entered the match with clear caution, as Al-Ettifaq sought to impose its style at home, while Duhok relied on defensive organization and counter-attacks.

Despite Al-Ettifaq's possession, real chances were rare in the early minutes, as Al-Ettifaq tried to advance from the flanks relying on the pace of its players, but Duhok's defense remained solid.

In the 43rd minute, Duhok managed to score through Marlon dos Santos, giving the Falcons of the Mountains the lead before the end of the first half.

In the second half, Al-Ettifaq increased its pressure, trying to equalize, but Duhok's defensive block prevented that.

In the 68th minute, Al-Ettifaq managed to score an equalizer through Wijnaldum, but the goal was disallowed for offside, reviving Duhok's spirit once again.

With this victory, Duhok places one foot in the final, but still needs to secure the win in the return leg at home, while Al-Ettifaq needs a strong comeback if it wants to turn the tables and qualify for the final match.
