Barcelona Player Refused Simeone's Request
Argentinian Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atletico Madrid, wanted his club to sign Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez last summer, according to 'Sport' newspaper.
The newspaper reported that Simeone was very keen on acquiring the player, especially after Martinez was not a key figure during the tenure of former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez.
However, despite Simeone's interest, the former Athletic Bilbao defender rejected the idea of leaving Barcelona, wanting to stay at the Catalan club, and Atletico then turned to signing Le Normand from Real Sociedad.
It is worth noting that the player has become an important part of Barcelona's lineup under the management of German coach Hans Flick.
