Piqué Explains His Retirement Decision
The Spanish star Gerard Piqué, former defender of FC Barcelona, explained the reasons that led him to make the decision to retire from playing in November 2022.
Piqué said: "At the end of 2022, I felt that I could no longer change the situation. For many reasons... the fans' discussions about my salary, the team was not winning... I didn't think things would change in the near future."
He also stated: "I never thought about joining another club. If I had to leave Barcelona at some point, it would be to retire, not to any other club."
Piqué was one of the key stars of Barcelona's golden generation under coach Pep Guardiola and in the later stages, but his performance with the team declined in the last years before retirement.
