Matteo Lahooz attacks the Spanish Federation after Real Madrid's complaint
The former Spanish referee, Antonio Matteo Lahooz, launched a sharp attack on the Spanish arbitration system, stressing that it needs a fundamental change, after Real Madrid filed an official complaint against the referee of its last match against Espanyol, which ended with his loss 1/0 in the Spanish League competitions.
In statements to the newspaper "Marca", Lahouz said: "The Spanish Football Association considers referees a special sect, and only takes care of them when this is in its interest, in the past, we were allowed to explain our decisions, but now the situation is different."
He added: "The referees make many mistakes, but the difference is that we do not have a mass base that supports us, and the federation does not defend the referees in front of the major clubs such as Real Madrid Barcelona."
Lahouz also commented on the use of video technology, saying: "Video technology is used in the wrong way, and the controversial shot should have been reviewed in the last Real Madrid match. The Spanish arbitration needed a comprehensive reform."
Real Madrid had issued a statement that included the most prominent arbitration errors that sparked his anger against Espanyol, calling on the Spanish Federation to clarifications about the controversial decisions in the match.
