Officially, Borussia Dortmund is appointed Niko Kovac as technical manager
The German club Borussia Dortmund announced the appointment of Niko Kovac as a new technical director for the team, with a contract that runs until June 30, 2026, to succeed former coach Nuri Shaheen, and Kovac is scheduled to start his duties next Sunday, after the team's match against Hydeenheim in the German League.
This appointment came after Borussia Dortmund ended his career in the group stage of the Champions League with remarkable excellence, as he won Shakhtar with three goals against one goal.
According to the club's official statement, the technical staff of Kovac will include his brother Robert Kovac and Philip Tabalovich as his assistants, and the new coach will be officially presented at a press conference held next week.
Niko Kovac expressed his happiness at assuming the position of coach of the Borussia Dortmund club, noting that the talks with the club administration were constructive and confident, and said: "I felt great support from all club officials during the discussions, and I am convinced that we are able to achieve great achievements together."
"Our primary goal is to show strong will and prepare for hard work to represent Borussia Dortmund in the best way in the German League and the Champions League, and we will face a new challenge next summer during the Club World Cup, and we will be ready for him with determination and focus."
For his part, Lars Ricken, the administrative director of Borussia Dortmund, confirmed that the club had extensive discussions with Kovac during the past days, noting that they took enough time to understand his vision and expectations.
"We are facing a sporty position full of challenges, but we are confident that Niko Kovac is the right person to lead the team towards achieving ambitious goals," said Ricken.
The appointment of Kovac comes in a decisive time for the team, as the club is seeking to enhance its position in the German League and strongly compete in European Championships, and thanks to Kovac's previous experience in training clubs such as Bayern Munich, Dortmund is looking to achieve positive results under his leadership.
