Southgate: Spain is the best team in the Euro, and it was a special night

England national team coach Gareth Southgate appeared in press statements after qualifying for the Euro 2024 final by defeating his Dutch counterpart by two goals to one.

The coach said: “A very special night and I hope it will be very special for everyone at home. I think our performance was really good.”

He added: “We knew they had more quality so they could punish you like they did, but there are more opportunities to play. Our midfielders, especially Foden, were key in finding space.” They had to keep changing what they were doing."

He continued:" Bukayo Saka did a tremendous job starting as a wing-back and defending as a winger at times - it was one of those nights where everyone had to be flexible.”

He continued about his substitutions: “We were happy with the way Phil [Foden] and Harry [Kane] played. We have a good bench, we have freshness and we know that Ollie Watkins can do With these runs to the side.”

He concluded: “This is what we came to.” Here to do and we built it for two years. We have to enjoy tonight, but equally, it was a quick turnaround and we have one less day off than the team that was the best in the tournament (Spain).”
