The Referees Committee of the Spanish Football Federation appointed referee Jesus Gil Manzano to officiate the El Clásico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, scheduled for Sunday evening in the Spanish Super Cup final, which will be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The appointment of Manzano to manage El Clásico is considered a bad omen for FC Barcelona, as the Catalan team did not achieve any victory or draw in the matches that this referee managed in El Clásico, and Manzano managed 3 Previous matches between the two teams, all of which ended with Real Madrid winning with scores of 3/1, 2/1, 2/1, in the years 2014, 2021, and 2023, respectively.
This is the fourth final match that Manzano has managed for Barcelona, and it carries a bad memory for the team. Manzano managed the 2016 Spanish Super Cup final, which ended with Barcelona defeating Seville 2/0, as well as The 2018 King's Cup final, which ended with the Blaugrana's victory over Sevilla 5-0, but the last final that Manzano led for Barcelona was in the 2021 Super Cup, where the team lost to Athletic Bilbao 3-2.
Over the course of his career managing Barcelona’s matches, Manzano managed 41 matches for the team in various competitions, in which Barcelona won 26 times, tied 7, and lost 8 times. The referee also showed the red card in the faces of Barcelona players 10 times, in addition to 101 yellow cards.
